Both the Zaku and RX-78-2 kits were released in 2015. They are my favorite molds from the 1/144 or HGUC scale. I decided to repaint them in colors and markings based on both Kunio Okawara's paintings from the 1980's and the vintage "Real Type" model kit series from the same era. The colors and markings I chose for the Zaku aren't very different from the kit's intended Origin color scheme. They are basically a slightly darker version of Okawara's painting shown at the bottom of this post. There's actually an official version of this exact kit at the MG or 1/100 scale but I really like the proportions and details on these smaller Origin kits.</div>

Original 1980's artwork by Kunio Okawara himself, if I'm not mistaken. There's a lot of thin line markings in places as well as more numbers. The stars on the shield are also typical of this style.</div>

Bandai's 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam got a much improved redesign in 2015 with the "Revive" line. I purchased two of these back then and decided to repaint one in colors and markings based on both Kunio Okawara's paintings and the vintage "Real Type" model kit series from the 1980's. </div>

I had already started on my own version before the P-Bandai version was available so I just kept going from there. While the official version is awesome, I wanted to go with a more retro look that I mostly adapted from the vintage kits. My coloring and some of the white markings are hand painted. The decals are mainly from Bandai's EDFS water-slide decal set and some others. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also added extra weapons from one of the Builder's Parts kits.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Long ago in 2007 when I was still crazy-inspired to crank out Lego originals based on popular science fiction movie design sensibilities, I really felt I needed a walker vehicle of my own. Enter the heavily armored HT-AT.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLYGfzE82MIp0NrAoyLH7FB4vm_6jXPYfJe7bqto6UP6kyRbR7MoaF9xed_56FfhnjDHOeN_moz9AGb8pee3PH90A-_glrGrG8qU2wMSgXz8KdF_1_bn48qlVfxaXjTgHtMURK4Gpa3yk/s1600/HT-AT-02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLYGfzE82MIp0NrAoyLH7FB4vm_6jXPYfJe7bqto6UP6kyRbR7MoaF9xed_56FfhnjDHOeN_moz9AGb8pee3PH90A-_glrGrG8qU2wMSgXz8KdF_1_bn48qlVfxaXjTgHtMURK4Gpa3yk/s1600/HT-AT-02.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This led to the birth of my HT-AT. A Clone-Wars-Era walker made to fit right in with the AT-TE and other vehicles used by the Galactic Republic, like the LAAT dropship.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNlIXGhYMYSPWiDYufs_larNOEZqpu-_t3C1xmMp9DXkZMTZfhhdowe76BoWXsz_-uUAqUz09Ho9MRJRAnBiWDIkTM3CwIVRUw59kxwY4NZ-xmcJxOP3YEJEqXVIhk_6tQ3peY37kZC30/s1600/HT-AT-03.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNlIXGhYMYSPWiDYufs_larNOEZqpu-_t3C1xmMp9DXkZMTZfhhdowe76BoWXsz_-uUAqUz09Ho9MRJRAnBiWDIkTM3CwIVRUw59kxwY4NZ-xmcJxOP3YEJEqXVIhk_6tQ3peY37kZC30/s1600/HT-AT-03.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
About 3 months ago, I revisited my MOC (Model of Choice) because I felt I needed to update some of the construction and finer details. I reduced the amount of visible studs, streamlining it just a tad.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjecEu9ns0g1wZdlDFWGB9OsMpu9ItBhzea82VaxgitmEQt4YSVKhu-fvGUFfLKSJ2z7TSk9fgDPVgccWKPOywXqzac7v1JVda1biCXpDZECyJgNewXV5mS6uWTByEoHOtbO08xoqGK-8A/s1600/HT-AT-04.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjecEu9ns0g1wZdlDFWGB9OsMpu9ItBhzea82VaxgitmEQt4YSVKhu-fvGUFfLKSJ2z7TSk9fgDPVgccWKPOywXqzac7v1JVda1biCXpDZECyJgNewXV5mS6uWTByEoHOtbO08xoqGK-8A/s1600/HT-AT-04.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's technically still under construction, as I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Plus, I need to add some moveable support mechanism to the underside. I designed it to attach to my custom LAAT Dropship, but the weight of the much larger model does put some stress on the legs of the smaller walker. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGtOLAy70aT-XwgLzNnX8sFokdmFOJqTORDMj5DQrzia0SfPs9-oUx4VTi4X3Klh1JnoOihcu-EbmxOZBD8mogm1MU4PJ_PdmBCZw80hnFjlP9JHIpzD-o4PlFEo3gtm1ZrbUYTh4gtc8/s1600/HT-AT-05.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGtOLAy70aT-XwgLzNnX8sFokdmFOJqTORDMj5DQrzia0SfPs9-oUx4VTi4X3Klh1JnoOihcu-EbmxOZBD8mogm1MU4PJ_PdmBCZw80hnFjlP9JHIpzD-o4PlFEo3gtm1ZrbUYTh4gtc8/s1600/HT-AT-05.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Galactic Republic</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The HT-AT is a multi-role walker made especially for extremely rugged terrain. it is an extremely versatile machine that provides ground support as well as transport capabilities. Much smaller than an AT-TE, HT-AT's can be used in a number of tight spaces such as caves or man-made structures. Its legs are designed to scale a variety of challenging surfaces. It can climb a vertical cliff and has even been deployed in zero gravity environments, attaching itself to large craft, such as cruisers and space stations. After the much smaller AT-RT, it is the 2nd fastest walker used by the republic, though it has a limited range. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This design is not "cannon" or an official Star Wars design. I created the model myself about 5 years ago out of a love for similar vehicles.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have soooo many plans for Lego builds or MOCs (Model of Choice), probably too many to ever realize in my lifetime. But I was looking at some Day of the Dead artworks and felt quite inspired and decided, "That's it! I'm finally making my little shrine I've been meaning to assemble for almost four years now!"</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge1sjJZUHAYiiG7yHq-iRtD_Oaxv2WLdYPhxzO3KU-e-mGaQ08tmmTJdMcr983DkkTATR7-QODNVTZ_jr14UrdMXEZs2b7dTHYLXu4TaNKw6RGypfgoh3LzuIc2FR_6HWqsZu-ZVlTHjY/s1600/IMG_0033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge1sjJZUHAYiiG7yHq-iRtD_Oaxv2WLdYPhxzO3KU-e-mGaQ08tmmTJdMcr983DkkTATR7-QODNVTZ_jr14UrdMXEZs2b7dTHYLXu4TaNKw6RGypfgoh3LzuIc2FR_6HWqsZu-ZVlTHjY/s1600/IMG_0033.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I knew I wanted a bride (Catrina?) and groom in some sort of chapel. That was clear from the beginning. I also knew I would use the Lego scorpion, spider and bats. Bats were iconic symbols used not just by the ancient Mayans but by the Aztecs as well!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The little werewolf at the top of my altar is the one part I suddenly stumbled on last minute. And it's my favorite little detail, though he's already pre-made and an official Lego figure. He's tiny!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I could have gone the easy, very modern route and used a simple red-black-white color scheme. Those colors are striking and can be elegant at times. But traditional Dia de los Muertos art uses many vibrant colors, which I find can be almost creepier in some cases.</div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I was at a store a few weeks ago and saw these. In recent years I've been trying to stick to model kits and forced myself to not buy toys anymore (Really? Who am I trying to fool? The animated Star Wars Rebels will be out soon!). But when I saw these stark, unpainted figures I felt that tremor in the force again. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">At just 2 to 2 and a half inches, they make great gaming pieces and great miniature display figures. Warning: I'm not a great photographer and the digital camera makes the fine details look harsher. A LOT!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">First, you have to prime them. This is absolutely necessary as the material they are made from has a certain residue that makes the paint slide across the surface. I washed the figures in liquid detergent, then let them dry thoroughly. </span></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Next, I sprayed them with Tamiya "Fine" White surface primer.</span></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">And last I painted them with different acrylic paints like Floquil's Polly Scale and cheap craft acrylic. Believe it or not, you can work wonders with some of those little 50 cent bottles!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">After priming they can be painted real easy. I used Tamiya's panel line accent color again and I really need to get the grey and mix it with the black, I think. The pure black lines are great on darker colors. but they might me a wee bit too dark on the X-Wing fighter. It looks good in person, though.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN0uJDmULhbJdbE0q365PtR5erI6NdoxJpa1BB10HnqsI8s1uPMj1hyzeEs13jVWewz99XNLDhv2QHBbd28rS0LqVHeqMjVrTWFzvYOR_dfqyQkwG2YcqP4owWRcvB5G79cmd5d1LNT68/s1600/IMG_1873.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN0uJDmULhbJdbE0q365PtR5erI6NdoxJpa1BB10HnqsI8s1uPMj1hyzeEs13jVWewz99XNLDhv2QHBbd28rS0LqVHeqMjVrTWFzvYOR_dfqyQkwG2YcqP4owWRcvB5G79cmd5d1LNT68/s1600/IMG_1873.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Because of the molding of the three lines on the s-foils (wings), I recognized this as Red-3, the X-Wing piloted by Biggs Darklighter. So I referenced an old magazine I still have with a few great pictures of ILM's filming models to get the right color scheme. Bear in mind, this thing is about 2 inches long, so getting the details right on the little astromech droid wasn't easy. He's a little sketchy!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I still need a few colors here and there to get this one 100% done. This really inspires me to get a an actual X-Wing model kit like the 1/72 Fine Molds or even other versions. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I would like to share a model I made back in the winter of 2010. The Space Battleship Yamato, called Argo and Intrepido in some countries, is one of my favorite spaceships ever. It is the main vehicle seen in 1974's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Battleship_Yamato" target="_blank">宇宙戦艦ヤマト (Space Battleship Yamato)</a>, called "Star Blazers" when it was released in English, later in 1979. Other language versions were "Astronave Intrepido" in Spanish-speaking countries, and "Patrulha Estelar" in Brazil and Portugal.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The news of the live-action film with Takuya Kimura and Meisa Kuroki, along with the trailers for the film, sparked some nostalgic force in me. So in 2010, I purchased the model and a few "mini-kits" (called Mecha Colle in Japan) from the original anime series. This model is in 1/700 scale. The miniature Mecha Colle kits are non-scale. I'll post some of those later. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This particular casting was re-released in 2009. But the original molding was done as a <a href="http://ourstarblazers.com/vault/157/" target="_blank">"Mechanical Model"</a> version back in 1978! It's basically the same model without the interior parts like the engine and the Wave-Motion gun. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When I made the kit in 2010, it was my first model in nearly 7 years. So I was extremely excited to get my hands on this project.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My first concern was the color. I blended a medium-to-light gray with a touch of blue and a few drops of purple. In some episodes it has this color. At other times, the color is more blue-green-gray. As the series progressed through the 1980's with sequels and seasons two and three, the ship's gray livery gets darker and darker. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Windows, portholes, and other lights change from greens to yellows, even soft blues, throughout the many incarnations of Yamato. I chose the green lights. I wanted my Yamato a lighter color because this is the way it appears in the very beginning of the show as it rips out of the ground. My pictures make it look darker than the actual thing.</span></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When I got the model, I was slightly disappointed by the lack of detail in some areas. Because Yamato is such a classic, there are many model kit releases available. The newer ones kept improving on the surface detailing, so I had to add some of my own. These subtle additions were mostly panels and hatches that I painted on the surface to bring my model up-to-date. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There's something very expressive and very alive about these older kits. They really do capture the spirit of these classic animes from the 70's and 80's. And along with Kodai, Mori, Sanada and all the rest, the Yamato itself feels like one of the main characters as well.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In this screen capture from Yamato 2199, you can see two Kripiteras side by side on the Floating Continent in episode 3. Bandai's Garmillas Set 2 includes 2 of these sleek destroyers. It makes perfect sense. These are the most common warcraft used by the Gamiras. And they are often seen traveling in close proximity, evoking the sense of ambush predators hunting in a pack.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Bandai created a standard display system that allows most of the models from the same series to be interchanged on the different stands so you can mix and match your favorite ships. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is one of my favorite ships from the whole series. In my opinion, Yamato has some of the most original designs in anime as well as science fiction.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The look of Yamato is inspired by WWII military vehicles. The Yamato herself is the rebuilt battleship from WWII. There are fighters and bombers that engage in aerial dogfights in space. Battleships like this one have rotating turrets and fight battles side by side, just as they did in the 1940's.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The designs of the Great Gamiras (Gamilon) Empire incorporate a mixture of WWII sensibilities with organic shapes that are reminiscent of sea creatures. Gaiderol looks a bit like a giant catfish or lamprey. These designs were ahead of their time for 1974. That's 3 years before Star Wars!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I left the underside below the waterline mostly unpainted and simply panel-lined. I primed the inside of the engine in white and painted it a bright magenta, imitating the color of the exhaust in the anime. I've seen some more advanced modelers illuminate the model with LED's, which looks amazing. But I'm satisfied with the way mine turned out using old-fashioned hand-painted lighting tricks.</span></div>

The original series was released as an english dub in the U.S. as <a href="http://www.ourstarblazers.com/"><span class="s2">Star Blazers</span></a> back in 1979. I have to admit, Star Blazers has a strong nostalgic power over me. I would watch it as a child, every morning at 7:00 a.m., right before school. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">I'm not a professional modeler. My skills include puttying, sanding, priming and basic painting. I have been building plastic models since the 1980's but it's not something I do all the time. If you're an average builder like me, you can still make a really good model from this kit with very little effort. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">I have to say that Bandai has raised the quality of their kits to near perfection. There is practically no flash. The parts fit with no mis-matched left-right warping whatsoever. There is only one area that really needs any puttying. It's a hair-thin gap near the front of the upper hull of the Gaiderohl Battleship. Apart from that, most everything else is a breeze for an impatient person like myself. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">The one annoying part is the tiny fins that cover all three of the spaceships. You can see one of them on my finger in the picture below. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;">My solution to this challenge was the method I used below, using tweezers and flipping the glue applicator. Otherwise, there would be glue leaks everywhere! I'm sure this method has been done a thousand times but I felt like sharing. IMPORTANT: The instructions indicate that these fins should be placed LAST. They are 100% correct. I made the mistake of applying some of them to the sub-assemblies, and had them fall off all the time when I started connecting the larger parts later. You can get as inventive as you like with the painting of this kit, but please follow the instructions carefully! As usual with Bandai, they are in Japanese but extremely easy to understand.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgue9PNJnrZ3XHQ4yZ30O5XcaThDABrwGZb7Mv1SpPxvCMud2lgVp6O9X9FhE77sBeGXosgxHxrTOUs8xyEos0UZZujBV4T1EcSQH_2kgouu2aqxmoU6duHDAtmMKAT99A7KT7JhitO1PM/s1600/IMG_0396.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgue9PNJnrZ3XHQ4yZ30O5XcaThDABrwGZb7Mv1SpPxvCMud2lgVp6O9X9FhE77sBeGXosgxHxrTOUs8xyEos0UZZujBV4T1EcSQH_2kgouu2aqxmoU6duHDAtmMKAT99A7KT7JhitO1PM/s1600/IMG_0396.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Another trick I found is an amazing product made by Tamiya, the Panel Line Accent Color. It is available in black, brown, or grey. This is a joy for lazy people like myself who don't like doing classic panel line wipes and inhaling massive amounts of paint thinner! </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU3lk9Y7Nm4NN5VwiNaSuREqU-wLOC9ynTcP3HmkhgzVEV8dzTo6cAGNnQ71Zfl4FDbABjKaSqc6cx65h8-9kmhhtp1wdygLE4iD3cAC0jkiBHm29wdQHGbK0cxoUjsh1dRJqSUml7mIw/s1600/IMG_0266.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU3lk9Y7Nm4NN5VwiNaSuREqU-wLOC9ynTcP3HmkhgzVEV8dzTo6cAGNnQ71Zfl4FDbABjKaSqc6cx65h8-9kmhhtp1wdygLE4iD3cAC0jkiBHm29wdQHGbK0cxoUjsh1dRJqSUml7mIw/s1600/IMG_0266.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As you can see in the above pics, it helps to accentuate the lines on the model. It works best with glossy paint or semi-gloss. It's not good with flat paint, where it drips where ever it wants to. Luckily, the Tamiya flat military spray paints I used are actually a bit semi-gloss. I have seen pictures where people made these same kits without painting the models and just used the panel line formula and they look fantastic! NOTE: excess panel line stains are removed using an enamel thinner like Tamiya's X-20. The thinner does not harm Tamiya spray paints as they are lacquer based. You can see a demonstration of this method <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dvn97kfr0wo" target="_blank">here</a>. Some people even use this method to make weathering streaks. The different colors can be mixed to make a dark gray, gray-brown, etc...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_5NwqJVpkxDnDMwTrAzAGbyKWg6vse7C0ecUy0chLr_v3TeLqhKifOSm81D5bMzJm-QSbg7_ISDBx8wykmFSO9O4ihBG7ZWq-8HDRPoHt1K4XkvV72d2UBI2mrgB3Hto7LwXz5DWdXho/s1600/IMG_0405.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_5NwqJVpkxDnDMwTrAzAGbyKWg6vse7C0ecUy0chLr_v3TeLqhKifOSm81D5bMzJm-QSbg7_ISDBx8wykmFSO9O4ihBG7ZWq-8HDRPoHt1K4XkvV72d2UBI2mrgB3Hto7LwXz5DWdXho/s1600/IMG_0405.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Above is a masking trick I used when painting the tiny curved bridge windows. Putting tape on one side allowed me to brush the paint on without being too precise. I primed the small spaces white first for maximum contrast from the yellow colors.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I then very lightly sanded the surface, removing the excess yellow.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I decided to paint one of the Cripitera Destroyers in the blue color used by the Gamiras Royal Guard. With coloring, I tend to be more of a perfectionist. So I mixed my own color. It's a semi-gloss mixture of navy, light gray, and a blue-violet. My camera doesn't capture this color well at all. The pictures make it look much more intense than it appears in real life. I applied this color with a brush. Obviously, an airbrush would have made the finish even smoother, but this worked out very nicely. I think it's because blue and gray acrylics tend to spread better than other colors.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what my Polar Lights Star Trek models were starting to look like prior to the disaster I wrote in the post right before this one. You need to read that to avoid making the same mistake I did. These pictures were taken almost a year ago. The models were basically waiting for minor details like the dome "light" that goes over the Enterprises' shuttle bays, a good gloss coat to help the decals adhere properly, and some paint corrections, like the copper rings behind the Pilot Enterprise's Deflector (I don't think both versions have the second copper detail).</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It has been nearly a YEAR since I started on these Polar Lights kits of the Original Series Enterprise and Klingon D7! And now 11 months later I find myself having to repaint them entirely due to the fact that I used what I consider generic Clear Gloss Spray that almost completely ruined them! For ethical reasons I'm refraining from naming the evil product in question that gave my children a tacky(sticky) finish. But it is not gloss spray from Home Depot like Krylon or anything like that. It was a domestic and very common brand of "model paint" found at any Toys"R"Us or Michael's. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjm1qLoC8b6Sw_miwGudRMA1cFDgsFxyYeQFaJnnOHJJQVhaNYTqcU-L0I2GpT6HKBiXjIlBrQPt9TlIKFKh5aR-1Bb2Vi5ru8cEkSqbSN3MB5WzhYhMCejlsrCFryINoXzjQ3Eyo6hXU/s1600/Polar_Lights_Enterprise_Repairs1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjm1qLoC8b6Sw_miwGudRMA1cFDgsFxyYeQFaJnnOHJJQVhaNYTqcU-L0I2GpT6HKBiXjIlBrQPt9TlIKFKh5aR-1Bb2Vi5ru8cEkSqbSN3MB5WzhYhMCejlsrCFryINoXzjQ3Eyo6hXU/s320/Polar_Lights_Enterprise_Repairs1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had gone to some time-consuming lengths investigating and gathering all the resources I could find such as studio photos and magazine articles containing interviews with Matt Jeffries and others to try to get the most accurate color schemes possible. And since I wanted to not just replicate exact studio colors but to tweak them to what I call "Screen Apparent" colors, I had to mix the crap out of the violet grays and the blue grey on the D7 for example. Even the cool blue-violet grey on the pilot Enterprise is hand cranked (I despise yellow-grays, with few exceptions). All modelers have to go through this process of making that "special color" you can't buy anywhere.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY1lM1ahrjxiMB4tvn_EvN5KgIwrHm9VAoEaZdjnAjoLHAiPw6ZrYiW2znA4_H3RkQSovrrrEHrivFVbZSWzsSL_oK7OobsGQOtfsfUWbHXoTcttfj6opXX0caxc4cHrWSwIQbQrIE85I/s1600/Polar_Lights_Enterprise_Klingon_d7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY1lM1ahrjxiMB4tvn_EvN5KgIwrHm9VAoEaZdjnAjoLHAiPw6ZrYiW2znA4_H3RkQSovrrrEHrivFVbZSWzsSL_oK7OobsGQOtfsfUWbHXoTcttfj6opXX0caxc4cHrWSwIQbQrIE85I/s320/Polar_Lights_Enterprise_Klingon_d7.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But how frustrating to have to sand everything down to start all over again after weeks of cutting, puttying, sanding, etc... So these are my shots of these models undergoing sanding and repainting refit. I was put off for months but I'm not giving up that easily.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

"The Sensor" is an interpretation of one of the more memorable scenes from 1979's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Motion_Picture" style="color: #815d78; text-decoration: none;">Star Trek The Motion Picture</a> in which Mr. Spock encounters a gigantic copy of the Deltan Ilia that overwhelms him as he attempts a mind meld with it. While most Star Trek fans count <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_II:_The_Wrath_of_Khan" style="color: #815d78; text-decoration: none;">Wrath of Khan</a> as their favorite from the original movies, I have a nostalgic place in my heart for this first movie. The effects are fantastic and there's enough camp and overacting in some scenes to keep you awake even through the long, slow V'ger sequences.</span></div>

My tribute to one of my favorite films "of all time". Some friends of mine were opening a club night with a minimalist/cold-wave music theme and they asked me if I wanted to bring any art with me. Being the only person exhibiting, of course I was honored and it motivated me to make this painting I had been imagining for months! Being a Blade Runner FANATIC I cranked it out in 3 hours. It's 4 foot by 2. Wouldn't a cartoon of this movie and novel be great?</div>

I'm reposting this from my art blog. It's called "A Vulcan Child". <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #777777; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">In the third film, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_III:_The_Search_for_Spock" style="color: #815d78; text-decoration: none;">The Search for Spock</a>, the crew of the <a href="http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/USS_Grissom_(NCC-638)" style="color: #815d78; text-decoration: none;">U.S.S. Even more surprising is that his newly formed body is that of a young boy. While we never actually saw him 'sitting' on the photon torpedo he was entombed in, I figured it would make a really cute image. The image you're viewing has been reduced to 17% of the original larger image.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's been nearly a year since I posted anything on this blog! This is mainly because apart from more mundane concerns, I've been dedicating a lot of my time to "fine" art such as painting and such. The truth is I've been so busy with stuff I have a hard time devoting myself to posting regularly on any of my blogs. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I wanted to return with an illustration made by me to decorate this small, humble corner of cyberspace. It's actually a composite of a few of my fan-art illustrations inspired by Star Trek. Jut today I made three variations on this image and I'll change them periodically as I hopefully (fingers crossed for good luck) get around to posting my of my creations.</div>

It was created by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kai%27s_Power_Tools">Kai's Power Tools</a> back when they were still joined with an old software company called <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MetaCreations">Metacreations</a>. It was then in those years that my brief experimentation with CGI began and then quickly ended in part for personal reasons, because I went back to hand-painted art, and because of the ever-shifting and impermanent world of computer software and hardware technologies.</div><div><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXmO80WxetPjKD9Fc9Dnl8QxIpncpVdroqB_5GBIMJKREFG_K7veMmLDz_-vnnnPA9RZyMUKZgeJb6fvW9-NVO-W5n2gwvqSaC_o-oRHz01L3xc2D0T8ApJILiOlDiZAjaKp9TDkdKkLg/s1600/DuneScape.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXmO80WxetPjKD9Fc9Dnl8QxIpncpVdroqB_5GBIMJKREFG_K7veMmLDz_-vnnnPA9RZyMUKZgeJb6fvW9-NVO-W5n2gwvqSaC_o-oRHz01L3xc2D0T8ApJILiOlDiZAjaKp9TDkdKkLg/s400/DuneScape.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5707364339474293314" /></a><br /><div>I was running this software on my first Mac, the Apple <a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/TA35299?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US">6320cd</a>, a cream colored machine that operated on 16 MB OF RAM! AND HAD A HARD DRIVE OF 1.2 GB! I don't think I have a flash drive with less than 2Gb on it. Well, the program was made for rendering landscapes of canyons and islands but also had a few basic geometric primitives like cubes and spheres or even a pyramid shape to drop in your cg desert. One of my earliest creations, that horrifies me now, is a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_(film)">DUNE</a> themed landscape. Above is an example of these in an unfinished <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundam">Gundam</a> mecha I was designing. It's right leg and arm pieces were assembled separately and the picture probably shows nearly a hundred of these small geometric bits. By current CGI model making standards, it's really time consuming and complex, even if the result looks simple.</div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiISkYg66mGJyYqQkKymfCVA1YbmY7q1gPY8dAkpUclAFqsX2Fz9C9iEpdHaFoFw590C1eym7YKkiwXNWUZQh3PRfT_S9vlGiy1CMCcU_LS1wfsI1c8N-zdIkVJN6jI3pc2bTliOfOlJmk/s1600/TatooineCast.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiISkYg66mGJyYqQkKymfCVA1YbmY7q1gPY8dAkpUclAFqsX2Fz9C9iEpdHaFoFw590C1eym7YKkiwXNWUZQh3PRfT_S9vlGiy1CMCcU_LS1wfsI1c8N-zdIkVJN6jI3pc2bTliOfOlJmk/s400/TatooineCast.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5707364323532679058" /></a><br /></div><div>Because I'm a huge Star Wars mega-nerd, I went on to make figures from that series. Tho not terribly realistic (they look really funny to me now), I would use these as smaller elements in very complex scenes with buildings, spacecraft, and moons thrown into their synthetic skies. The more familiar creature at the left, a Rodian, had his head first constructed from a larger sphere, his snout from a cylinder attached to the sphere, and then everything else on his face and head made from even more spheres and cylinders, all "pasted" together. The program didn't really provide you with any soft, organic curvy shapes. The curved head of his brown hammer head companion was made by introducing a cylinder or squashed sphere, duplicating it onto an imaginary invisible circular diameter, then duplicating those two elements, rotating them so now the four elements are 90 degrees across from each other, duplicating those into eight pieces, rotate, duplicate, rotate, repeat, repeat, repeat until you have about 100 squashed rounded bits side by side and so close AND even overlapping each other to create a softer torque shaped object. The program didn't have torques. I would then cut off one side of the torque and the half-torque made the hammer-headed curved portion of the head. But I was surprised to see it's not the NX-2000 from 1984's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_III:_The_Search_for_Spock">The Search for Spock</a> as I expected.<div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWcic51f3WAjHTs3tZw5EpHZBPp1dBNBLOter_LDX3Rg0ti8gijzDJ9hU1Jzyn7T3yabzQ9M56b7TR_97MM0FmIiE5EUb5jwO29y-RNWuyhucp5LQamMqi8I9fKrb4N3ZJ_5e8RQYZIBM/s1600/ExcelsiorModel01.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="text-align: left;display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWcic51f3WAjHTs3tZw5EpHZBPp1dBNBLOter_LDX3Rg0ti8gijzDJ9hU1Jzyn7T3yabzQ9M56b7TR_97MM0FmIiE5EUb5jwO29y-RNWuyhucp5LQamMqi8I9fKrb4N3ZJ_5e8RQYZIBM/s400/ExcelsiorModel01.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706189539297980850" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>Instead it's the NCC-2000 from 1991's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_VI:_The_Undiscovered_Country">The Undiscovered Country</a>. I may have to putty some areas and repaint others. Most obvious is the missing white dome that needs to be attached over the Enterprise's hangar bay. I MIGHT spray the insides of the Enterprise's bussard scoops clear orange. The models still need gloss-prep for decal placement. But the solution needs to be ordered. A local store has Testor's decal solvent, which I'm tempted to get, tho I've never used it before. From my experience Micro Set and Solvaset are really good for this sort of thing. <div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih84_d5ndAV7dco7kHI4Ne9GzsCsu6pwkfHT8hSUbcLEyZebV0SMrAXFqYdzY43CVDlWzESXKFadAvRFt5yNbfXzrjsvgUo_JdTLDiEJfizrQ0yJhzMipewomnaCL1Oczf3R63N1Hbb7Q/s1600/StarshipsEnterpriseKlingon06.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih84_d5ndAV7dco7kHI4Ne9GzsCsu6pwkfHT8hSUbcLEyZebV0SMrAXFqYdzY43CVDlWzESXKFadAvRFt5yNbfXzrjsvgUo_JdTLDiEJfizrQ0yJhzMipewomnaCL1Oczf3R63N1Hbb7Q/s400/StarshipsEnterpriseKlingon06.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5705691135150814738" /></a><br /><div>I wanted to show some of the weathering I applied on these, mostly in the form of dirt or maybe chemical streaks. While that effect can be seen on the original Enterprise to some degree or another, the Klingon vessel's weathering was usually more of a subtle tonal staining. But I like my Klingon ships really dirty, even the classic design. The streaking around her photorp tube is a bit exaggerated and resembles the K'Tinga'a design elements around her launcher, but that doesn't bother me. I'm definitely not the best photographer in the world and I have to say that the harshness of the camera has captured many flaws that I couldn't see with my naked eyes. but that helps to make them better, even if it does mean more puttying, sanding and repainting.<br /><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3e1dpYwO5VkPPkQOMBarQElqcVKX8G1BEOPIk4leXmFMERg4pOYi8MXPPVm01QQ-AJI84MH-Kqm0CyXPdpbnt8P0wa7D1VXP0YWMvfI2DEQBCDuDOmyT4qAprDHa7fRzQCXRVB9FqbNg/s1600/StarshipsEnterpriseKlingon03.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3e1dpYwO5VkPPkQOMBarQElqcVKX8G1BEOPIk4leXmFMERg4pOYi8MXPPVm01QQ-AJI84MH-Kqm0CyXPdpbnt8P0wa7D1VXP0YWMvfI2DEQBCDuDOmyT4qAprDHa7fRzQCXRVB9FqbNg/s400/StarshipsEnterpriseKlingon03.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5705037684896044066" /></a><br /></div></div><div>It's also hard to capture the colors correctly. The Enterprise in the middle is actually a greener blue-gray, Tamiya's Dark Ghost Grey to be exact. And the blue tones on the Klingon vessel are more aqua. I'll explain more about my color scheme for the D-7 later on.</div>Krytios Sotohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01759519031212661150noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840367869246723700.post-52685594203152413352012-02-02T21:12:00.000-08:002012-02-02T21:38:38.589-08:00Fast Forward to 1967Here is an overhead of the 3 Star Trek models I have that are closest to completion. From left to right: 1)USS Enterprise, 2nd Pilot version, 2)Enterprise, production version and 3)Klingon D-7. The three are mostly painted and have a few small parts that need attaching. They are still not adorned with decals, as I'm awaiting the decal solvent solution that has to be ordered.<div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwm-64amSU543KtcPG4jKY7N67uonKG0H_2JFeKosutix7E-A2JLuXPHZt6kf2JK8CokSlGn-Qnhh_yVcNvb7iAV4b6xwZEKGSuoo0v5VTggj6gHPsexCXKASaSubPxI7J0AyvHRkcd64/s1600/StarshipsEnterpriseKlingon02.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwm-64amSU543KtcPG4jKY7N67uonKG0H_2JFeKosutix7E-A2JLuXPHZt6kf2JK8CokSlGn-Qnhh_yVcNvb7iAV4b6xwZEKGSuoo0v5VTggj6gHPsexCXKASaSubPxI7J0AyvHRkcd64/s400/StarshipsEnterpriseKlingon02.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5704774671117668146" /></a><br />Personally, I think I nailed the colors on these babies. That said, NAILED them from an "interpretive" stand point. If I am making models, especially at this small scale, WITHOUT any electrical lighting installed, I will usually color them in a way that gives them an on-screen appearance. But even then, I'm attempting to color them in such a way that only appears to REMIND you of what you saw on the tv or wherever. The 1st ship on the left was originally painted almost white. The final production Enterprise (center) was a much paler gray that was actually more greenish. Those are the correct colors without question. But the Enterprise sometimes appears somewhat bluish in scenes. So I have painted them all a darker shade to emphasize their on-screen looks under certain lighting conditions. Even then, I might augment a color.</div>Krytios Sotohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01759519031212661150noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840367869246723700.post-15541220792274282202012-02-02T09:47:00.000-08:002012-02-02T11:07:12.257-08:00Three Sisters (well, almost)Hello folks! Nearly two decades later, I'm making plastic models again. And that's thanks to the evil of Polar Lights and their 3 foot long Starship (TMP) Enterprise model with clear parts for lighting. Not pictured here, and still in its beginning stages, its parts have been separated, sanded and primed and are sitting in a box, for the time being. <div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6p4dJNcJI3pFDYkASxhTD83CBDlPambStFYbXnsAXHkithF4rmPnuX4R89I4WHHnXPknxsvIffnRGknkCgZxcP4AN0WSjfJfO8OqLYi-GdaY4lBxZci3ATF7ggymjK0UdPNUy7nGafPQ/s1600/StarshipsEnterpriseKlingon01.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6p4dJNcJI3pFDYkASxhTD83CBDlPambStFYbXnsAXHkithF4rmPnuX4R89I4WHHnXPknxsvIffnRGknkCgZxcP4AN0WSjfJfO8OqLYi-GdaY4lBxZci3ATF7ggymjK0UdPNUy7nGafPQ/s400/StarshipsEnterpriseKlingon01.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5704596660549346850" /></a><div><br /></div><div>In the meantime, since I'm rusty after all those 18-19? years, I'm handling these smaller and simpler 10inch long ships from the original series at 1/1000 scale. With basic colors worked out, they are awaiting a gloss coat and decals. But the decal adhesive solution has to be ordered because there are few hobby shops in Miami nowadays and they are quite limited in terms of selection and supply, appealing more to the radio-control race car enthusiasts.</div></div><div><br /></div>Krytios Sotohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01759519031212661150noreply@blogger.com0
